FAQs

General FSA/HSA Questions

What are FSA and HSA accounts?

Health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) are programs that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses. If you’re unsure whether or not you have an HSA or FSA account, please check with your employer or insurance company.

How does using my HSA/FSA account save me money?

HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition. Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in their health.

An individual can contribute up to $4,150 pretax to their HSA per year, or $8,300 for a family (plus an additional $1,000 if you are at least 55 years old. Individuals can contribute up to $3,200 pretax to their FSA per year (with an additional $500 in employer contributions allowed).

When should I use my FSA/HSA dollars?

You can use your HSA/FSA dollars all year long. However, FSA dollars expire at the end of the year and unused money may not rollover into the next year. Make sure to spend the rest of your FSA dollars before December 31st — use it, so you don’t lose it!

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity, and how is this compliant?

A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is a formal document that a licensed healthcare provider writes to explain why a specific treatment, product, or service is essential for a patient's health.

A health plan may request an LMN as part of a certification or utilization review process to determine if a requested medical expense is covered. Health insurance providers, health savings accounts (HSAs), or flexible spending accounts (FSAs) may also request an LMN before reimbursing an expense.

The IRS defines a medical expense as, the costs of diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, and for the purpose of affecting any part or function of the body.

The items in your Truemed Letter of Medical Necessity (“LMN”) are now qualified medical expenses in the same way a visit to the doctor’s office or pharmaceutical product is.

There are thousands of studies showing food and exercise is often the best medicine to prevent and reverse disease. Exercise qualifies as a qualified medical expense with an LMN. Food, supplements, and other wellness purchases qualify as medical expenses if they treat or prevent an illness, and a doctor substantiates the need. Your Truemed LMN satisfies all IRS requirements to make your wellness spend fully reimbursable.

Don't have an HSA/FSA account?

If you do not currently have an HSA/FSA account, we recommend reaching out to your employee benefits coordinator to see what benefits are available to you. Then you can enroll in an HSA/FSA account at the time of open enrollment.

Unsure if you are enrolled in an HSA/FSA account?

In this case, we recommend reaching out to your employee benefits coordinator. They will be able to assist you with any questions about the benefits you selected during open enrollment. They can also alert you of upcoming opportunities to enroll in an HSA/FSA account.

MenstrEaze with FSA/HSA

Why are MenstrEaze products eligible for FSA/HSA?

We believe premium support for women should be simple and accessible. Through our collaboration with Truemed, eligible customers can now use Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds on MenstrEaze products!

How do I pay for MenstrEaze products?

You can keep purchasing MenstrEaze products on shop.menstreaze.com. Truemed then provides the documentation, upon approval, to submit with your reimbursement claim to your HSA/FSA provider. You can either submit claims individually or all at the end of the year.

How long does the approval process take for a customer to receive a Letter of Medical Necessity after checkout?

The intake form is only a few questions. No live consultation with a doctor is required. If eligible, approval is instant. Truemed will then provide via email a Letter of Medical Necessity within 24 hours.

How many Letters of Medical Necessity does a customer need to obtain?

Each Letter of Medical Necessity can cover multiple products and is applicable to all MenstrEaze FSA/HSA eligible products.

How long does the Letter of Medical Necessity last?

Each Letter is valid for 12 months before it needs to be renewed.

Can I submit previous orders for reimbursement?

Truemed makes your recent purchase and future subscription payments eligible for reimbursement through your HSA/FSA. Eligibility of reimbursement claims for previous orders is subject to requirements set forth by your HSA/FSA provider.

How long does HSA or FSA reimbursement take?

For most FSA/HSA administrators, your expenses will be approved within days when you submit your claim for reimbursement along with your receipt and a Letter of Medical Necessity. The exact timing will vary based on your administrator.

Do I need to take Truemed’s survey every time I make a purchase from MenstrEaze?

If you have already received a Letter of Medical Necessity for purchasing specific products from a merchant, you do not need to complete Truemed’s survey again so long as your Letter of Medical Necessity remains valid. Letters of Medical Necessity are typically valid for 12 months after they are first issued. You do still need to submit your receipts for reimbursement with your HSA/FSA administrator.

I don’t have enough funds in my HSA/FSA account to reimburse the entire purchase. Can I still use Truemed?

Yes. You can still submit for partial reimbursement. For example: if you purchase an eligible item for $100 but only have $60 in your account, you can reimburse $60 of your purchase with your tax-free funds (with the remaining $40 paid for as normal).

My claim was denied... now what?

If you receive an alert of a denied claim, we are here to help! To best support you, please compile the following information.

Denied Claim Information

  • A screenshot or copy of the denial notice. This should include the denial reason clearly stated and also the denial code, if provided.
  • The name of your HSA/FSA administrator, if not clearly shown on the denial notice.

Once you have this information compiled, please email support@truemed.com and include this information in the email body.

I never received my letter of medical necessity

If it has been over 48-hours and you have not received a copy of your letter of medical necessity...

Check Your Spam/Junk

As a result of email security settings, the initial email could've been flagged as junk/spam. We recommend checking your junk/spam folder and searching for an email from medical@truemed.com.

No Luck?

If you are unsuccessful in finding the letter in your spam/junk folder, please email support@truemed.com. Please email us with the same email address you utilized to complete the qualification survey process.

Are there fees associated with using Truemed's services?

There is no cost to you as long as you are shopping with a Truemed partner merchant, in this case, MenstrEaze.

What happens if I have both FSA/HSA eligible items and ineligible items in my cart?

When you select the “Truemed" payment method at checkout, your cart will automatically be split into eligible and ineligible subtotals. You can then add the appropriate payment method for each subtotal.

Does the email used at checkout have to match the email associated with their HSA/FSA account?

No, but the customers name should match between the order, their Truemed qualification survey, and their HSA/FSA account.
